I sat down with the family calendar tonight and started filling in events for March. There's the Pinewood Derby, a school field trip to the Jiffy Mix factory (Otto is psyched about that, he's been before and says it's the best factory tour EVER), Easter, the beginning of spring break, and the Middle House science fair.
And Bel has surgery.
She has to have her left eardrum repaired -- it didn't completely heal over after the ear tube came out, and that's partly why she had such an awful ear infection earlier this winter. So our neato ENT will fix it. I got the paperwork for her surgery today, and going through it said "huh, Bel can't have vitamins for 10 days before her surgery." Which intrigued Otto. He came to look over my shoulder and mark the days when he can have a gummy bear after dinner and she can't.
Sibling rivalry shows itself in surprising ways sometimes.
Bel asked me what she could wear to the hospital, and I said I wasn't entirely sure, but I was pretty certain she could wear her pajamas or comfy clothes like sweats. She voted for pajamas, smart cookie, and I think I'd better buy her some new ones, just in case there's another growth spurt in the next 3 weeks.
And then I packed her off to bed with the hot water bottle, since talking about her ear brought back memories of how bad it hurt before, and that was enough to require hot water bottle comfort. Poor kiddo.
Our annual winter break museum trip to Chicago last week was a lot of fun, and I'll have to post photos soon. We had a good time despite kind of crummy snowy weather, wearing boots and lots of layers and riding the train downtown instead of driving. The kids looooved the Metra. Bel got to play games on my phone while Otto read. In fact, he read an entire book (The Strange Case of Origami Yoda) on Saturday's trip alone, and liked it so much that he wants me to buy the 2nd book rather than borrow a library copy (he's a re-reader like me).
So I guess I'd better add Darth Paper Strikes Back to my monthly shopping list, too. I doubt we'll need much else. Books and pajamas are about the only thing you need or want when it's March in Michigan.
