It was a little disorienting coming home from our trip this time. We had a relaxing few days at my mom's in my hometown, with family friends to see and familiar places and spaces to visit. We napped, spent lots of down time together, went to the water park and the zoo and the fireworks display. And then zingo! Back to the life we've made for ourselves here in Michigan. How can two places 900 miles apart feel like home?
Today someone posted a link to They Might Be Giants covering Tubthumping, which was hilarious, and led to an on-line discussion of TMBG's fun and catchy albums for kids. Here Comes Science lives in Otto's CD player -- he listens to it probably once a week. My personal favorite is Seven Days Of The Week (I Never Go To Work). And, since it perfectly exemplifies my post-vacation, still-summer state of mind, here it is:
My kids were all excited about getting back to school today. Jon and I were a little less thrilled, but still - it's good to be home.
The only hitch in our smooth re-entry was that Otto left his puppies in a closet at my mom's house. WHY the puppies were hiding out in a closet is a question to which no one has an answer (not even Otto). They are currently winging their way home by airmail, which Otto appreciates more than he can describe. He cried on the phone last night when my mom told him they were found, safe, and would be coming back to him right away. Just like Flat Stanley. Only hopefully without the egg salad sandwich and toothbrush case full of milk.
