Bel really loves her Poppy.
It's funny -- I don't expect her not to like him, but I usually think of kids her age being close to people they see often, and less sure about people they don't see all the time. For whatever reason, though, Poppy looms large in her mind, and she was thrilled to get to hang out with him yesterday afternoon when we arrived.
He went up to the TV room to put a video in for her last night, and when he turned on the TV a baseball game was on.
"Is that baseball?" Bel asked.
"Yes," Herb said. "I bet you don't like baseball yet, but that might be a fun thing to do some day when we visit you. We could go see a Detroit Tigers game."
Annabel looked at him and said, "Some Poppys really know how to talk to girls."
I asked, "does your Poppy know how to talk to girls?" She nodded, then sat down with him to watch the movie.
She cracks me up.
Tonight after dinner we went for a little walk, and when we came back to the kitchen Nana and Daddy were cleaning up from dinner while listening to Paul Simon's Graceland album. Bel ran and put on her dancing skirt and started tearing up the dance floor. I got about a minute of video. It's essential watching, if I do say so myself:
Otto has had a great time too. He's been playing with his dad's old LEGO collection, and tonight rode his bike up the hilly sidewalk and then raced it down. An adrenaline junky in the making!
Makes me wish, yet again, that we were still living on this side of Lake Michigan.
Ah well. Maybe we will again, someday.
