Otto's on spring break this week. This means that he gets to go to day care and spend all day every day playing with his best friend. As you might imagine, he's happier than a pig in mud.
The after-school teacher set a theme for each day to help structure the week's events. Today was Pirate Day, and I made up a last-minute "costume" consisting of a white shirt and a scarf for a sash.
Bel had to be a pirate too.
She's getting to be quite a storyteller. The other night she saw a book with a castle on the cover and said "a castle story!" Then she launched into a tale beginning "Once upon a time" (the best stories always start that way, I guess).
My favorite so far, though, is her tale of woe from last week. I asked her one evening how her day had been and what she did.
"Alex* pushed me," she said solemnly, her eyes huge.
Being two in a class full of two-year-olds, this wasn't a big surprise to hear. So I asked "What did you do? Did you use your words and tell him 'I don't like it?'"
She nodded seriously, then said "I cwied and cwied and cwied."
I could feel my own eyes getting big, and I said "What happened? Did you tell Miss K?"
"Uh huh," she nodded. "She take Alex to the office."
"Oh no," I said.
"And my fwiends, they watched and watched and watched," she finished, pointing her index finger for emphasis.
Future actress? Or budding author? Perhaps both, the way she's going.
Otto is shaping up to be a superhero -- well, at least for tomorrow for Superhero Day.
As for Jon and me, we're just trying to keep up.
*Names have been changed to protect the innocent, who didn't go to the office quite as described, but who did get in a wee bit of trouble.
