I made the mistake of reading reviews this week.
First off, my phone contract is up soon, and I'm due for my "new every 2" bonus from Verizon. I was kind of hoping the Nexus One would be available on Verizon soon. Instead this week I read: Verizon Nexus One is Dead, but That's OK.
Taking their word for it I decided I wanted the Incredible. Woo hoo! Smartphone! With built-in mapping for the next time I get lost going to a meeting! Just in time for summer road trips, too. (It should arrive next week, I hope.)
Also in time for summer road trips... I visited Elite Car Seats last night for no reason in particular. I just like browsing car seats sometimes, I guess. And they had Bel's car seat on sale, so I bought her another one. Pbbbbt. Our secondary seat just doesn't fit nicely in my car - I keep adjusting it and tightening the strap, and no. Not working. She doesn't like it much either -- not enough padding, plus there's no shield to protect her little legs from hot car seat buckles, and you know summer's coming, and dresses, and... well. I went, I saw, I ordered.
Then somehow I found this review of booster seats by the IIHS, and holy smokes - Otto's one seat (again, the secondary seat) is a DO NOT RECOMMEND. Man, how did I let that happen?
So I ordered him a new seat, too -- we'll see how it fits, and I'm going to check out the Graco too. I'm not a car seat purist in that I don't get that geeked over which seats in which positions are safest. For example, if I were really on the ball Otto would still be in a 5-point harness, not a belt-positioning booster -- except that I SWEAR to you car seat recommendations have gotten even more stringent in the past 2 or 3 years. I'm not that oblivious, I don't think. Am I?
Maybe we should move on. I now vow to avoid all reviews of all stuff for the next 6 months. This whole "being knowledgeable" thing is expensive.
I'll wrap this up with a video of Bel from the other morning when she wanted to wear both her sun hat and her mittens with her spring jacket (she loves her mittens).
