Jake did not like the 4th of July this year. Not at all.
Our subdivision was rife with home fireworks displays, and he was thoroughly traumatized by it all. He wouldn't go outside to pee, and couldn't settle in his favorite spot on the couch. We finally gave him a dose of his Tramadol, hoping it might help him calm down.
At bedtime we headed upstairs, and for the first time in months he followed us. He climbed right onto the bed and laid down between us (note: he's a Siberian Husky. It's July. This is not normal behavior!). I pulled a blanket over him and put my hand on his head, trying to reassure him that things were going to be OK. He just looked at me as though to say, "Lady, nothing out there is OK." We all finally got to sleep around midnight - Jon was up at 3am, though, and said there were still fireworks going off. Thankfully it didn't bother the kids much.
Otto fell asleep around 6:30 last night and woke up this morning with a fever, so it's a good thing we went to the parade yesterday and had a little fun before he got sick. He and I will be home tomorrow, raiding the Popsicle stash and watching SpongeBob. I'll probably keep the baby home, too. I think she and I might be sharing a yeast infection, and we might have to visit the drs office to get the appropriate drugs. Fun times!
We really did have a fun time at the parade yesterday, though. Otto got to see several shiny firetrucks and enjoyed picking up candy. Annabel got into the act and waved at lots of people and danced to the bands. We followed up with a trip to the farmer's market and lunch at the Sidetrack. Yum!
So that was pretty much our 4th... not a bad way to spend it, in my mind! I just wish we'd had some doggy earmuffs for Jaker.
