We leave Wednesday night for a week-long vacation visiting family and friends.
It can't come too soon. The last few weeks at work have been pretty spectacularly awful. Since I'm not smart like Say La Vee, who's anonymous, I can't really say why. But I also don't want to be a quitter, so feel I should say something. Otherwise it's the big gorilla keeping me from saying anything at all.
Anyway, I am evidently pretty horrible lately. Which most likely correlates with my stress level, not that it matters. It's all turned into one big vicious catch-22, leading me to say to Jon the other day, "maybe I should just quit. If we cancel cable and and internet and go 2 days a week for preschool, maybe we could swing it." He looked dubious, but he's smart enough to say "whatever you need to do, babe."
He is my hero.
So, anyway, at 3am last night when I was awake thinking about work instead of sleeping, I found my favorite infomercial on. It's the GT Xpress 101! Actually, the one I saw last night was newer, with a version of the Xpress that had one big cooking well instead of two little ones. I like to watch the presenter move from cooker to cooker, pouring and mixing stuff together that looks good in theory, but that you KNOW would suck in real life. They're so cheerful in the commercial, talking about how quick and easy cooking is, and how good all those strange concoctions taste. Omlets! Cake! Corndogs! You can make it all, in 7 minutes or less!
If only life were so easy.
Annabel seems to be doing OK with her sore ear. She's been more sensitive this week and messes with her right ear (the angry one), but I think she's healing on her own. She's walking more and more... 3 steps. 5! 7! What I love is when she takes off across the room, stops part-way, gets tired or scared, and then stands there and cries until one of us rescues her. Brave girl, to attempt climbing to the summit so soon.
Otto and I snuggled in bed the other night with Go, Dog. Go! in our laps, and he proceeded to read me the first few pages. He knows enough words by sight to get through very short sentences. It's so fun! I don't remember learning to read, so seeing him put it together is really nice.
Jon's feverish today. I need to get the kids out the door and run some errands so he can rest. He's not sick very often, and I hope it's nothing too serious. Because we're leaving town Wednesday, even if I have to bundle him into the back seat with a pillow and jug of Nyquil.
Edited to add: Feeling better about things after spending an hour outside with my neighbor watching the boys play - she's having some similar issues in life, and it's always good to know you're not alone. Plus - Annabel got to share Reese's goldfish crackers. Yum!
Also, Jon for sure has influenza, poor darling. Am headed upstairs now to get him into a cool shower so I can change the sheets for him.
